Use this to narrow your match

  • Collect the requirements from the retailer or wholesale customer you intend to serve.
  • Explain how consumer and retail orders will use inventory.
  • Start with the retail and B2B shortlist, then compare candidates using the same requirement brief.

Bring these four things into the conversation
  1. Retailer instructions
  2. Stock allocation
  3. Account-specific scope
  4. Representative shipment

Bring the actual instructions

Collect the requirements from the retailer or wholesale customer you intend to serve. Describe the order quantities, case configuration, packaging, labels, documents, and delivery coordination involved. Avoid asking only whether a 3PL supports B2B. A useful answer explains which of your required tasks it performs, where it performs them, and what setup is needed.

Look at the shared stock

Explain how consumer and retail orders will use inventory. Ask how the provider handles reservations, priorities, shortages, and changes to a large order. A channel expansion can affect your existing customer promise even when the products stay the same. Walk through a scenario where wholesale demand and a consumer promotion arrive together so the team can explain its proposed rules.

Narrow by confirmed scope

Start with the retail and B2B shortlist, then compare candidates using the same requirement brief. Ask for the assigned facility, project owner, expected setup steps, and a sample report. Separate services available now from those requiring additional work. A provider’s broad network or software offering should lead to a specific proposal for the account you are planning.

Price a representative shipment

Give the shortlisted teams the same retail-order example and ask them to price the required preparation and dispatch work. Keep the consumer scenario alongside it so you can see the effect on the whole operation. Confirm which tasks remain with your brand. Use the resulting answers to choose the next stage of diligence, rather than declaring a winner from the channel label alone.
